FAQs

Does OpenRent do landlord accounting?

No. OpenRent has no expense tracking, no bank feeds, no per-property profit reporting and no tax reports. Its £10/month rent collection add-on shows a ledger of rent received, and only on tenancies set up through its Rent Now service. For income and expense tracking across your whole portfolio you need separate software such as Landlord Studio, which is free for up to 3 properties.

Is OpenRent Making Tax Digital compliant?

Not yet. OpenRent has an MTD for Income Tax tool on a waitlist and describes it on its own site as still in development, with pricing not yet decided. It does not currently appear on HMRC's list of recognised MTD software. Landlord Studio is HMRC-recognised, with MTD submissions included on its Pro plan (from £12/month billed annually) and available at £5 per submission on its free plan.

How much does OpenRent cost?

As of July 2026, advertising on openrent.co.uk is free, portal advertising to Zoopla and 100+ partner sites is £29 inc VAT, and Rightmove is a £70 add-on. Rent Now costs £79 inc VAT standalone or £58 bundled with portal advertising, referencing is £30 per applicant, and rent collection is £10/month. Landlord Studio is free for up to 3 properties, with Pro from £12/month billed annually.

Can I use OpenRent and Landlord Studio together?

Yes, and it is a common setup. Use OpenRent to advertise, reference and set up the tenancy, then track rent, expenses, documents and maintenance in Landlord Studio and file your quarterly MTD updates from there. Landlord Studio covers every property you own, including those you let through an agent or found yourself, not just the ones let through one platform.

What is the best OpenRent alternative for managing a portfolio?

OpenRent is a letting service rather than portfolio software, so the useful comparison is with all-in-one platforms. Landlord Studio combines HMRC-recognised MTD accounting with property management, including per-property tracking, bank feeds, receipt scanning, tenancy records, rent reminders, maintenance and rental listings, and is free for up to 3 properties.
